Temptation Revisited

Time has come and it's going still
I'm learning slowly but learn I will
And one thing new you have to know
Is that temptation comes, but never goes
And it will not always fight the same
It will regularly go by different names

It builds itself throughout the day
Never really going away
And when you feel it at its hardest
It's really just coming to collect the harvest
Already its flag is in your soil
It's merely arriving to collect the spoil

For the war is not won on the battlefields
But in supply lines and in soldier’s meals
And when it looks like temptation’s sleeping
Through your lines his men are creeping
They steal your food and burn your bridges
For you have enemy men in your very own ditches!

If your bridges are burned all and sundry
And all of your men have gone hungry
Then you probably won’t think to ask for assistance
And you'll have no defence, little resistance
You'll give up ground and eventually surrender
To the champion of lies, the great pretender

To prevent this disaster you must take note
Humility is key; one never should gloat
So guard your bridges (your relationship with God)
And use them often (through prayer and with awe)
And please feed your troops (your mental defences)
With the word of our Lord (your primary offensive)

Now I must truly say that my army needs work
And often my duty to bridges gets shirked
But please don't follow my bad example
For many a time have I been trampled
You must follow the lead of Christ your King
For He alone can victory bring.
